Laparoscopic Surgery

What is Laparoscopic Surgery?

Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure used to perform operations through small incisions using a camera (laparoscope) and specialized instruments. It’s commonly used for gallbladder removal, appendectomies, hernia repairs, and gynecological surgeries.

How does the wound happen?

Several small cuts (usually 0.5–1 cm) are made on the abdomen to insert surgical tools. Though the wounds are small, they go through the skin and muscle layers and must heal properly.

What Happens If Not Treated Properly?

  • Infection at Incision Sites: Even small cuts can get infected if not kept clean and dry.
  • Hernia Formation: Poor healing may cause the incision site to weaken, leading to hernias.
  • Pain and Swelling: Improper wound care may prolong discomfort and swelling.
  • Delayed Recovery: Lack of attention to post-operative care can slow healing and increase risk of complications.

Scarring: Though smaller than traditional surgery, visible scars may still form without proper care.
